Sugarbush, VT- Element, Class, and Broken Legs

“…Hyde Away was a total treat! Its local vibe coupled with uneven floors and outstanding french onion soup, made it a perfect transition from the weekly grind into the classic Vermont experience known as Sugarbush. Aside from the attractive bar staff, there were a few things that stood out to me about The Hyde Away. Naturally the first things was the local vibe and old-school VT tavern feel. What’s on Tap: Described as rustic and cozy, the tavern at the Hyde Away Inn & Restaurant is a local’s spot where you can debate single chair vs. high-speed lifts, skiing vs. snowboarding, and the Mad River Valley’s toughest slope. Regarding the latter, the folks from the Hyde Away will have you know that you won’t find the answer at either Sugarbush or Mad River Glen, since the toughest slope in the area—in their opinion—is the tavern floor. Finding big family fun at smaller New England resorts

For a dining and/or lodging option in the Mad River Valley, look no further than the Hyde Away Inn (hydeawayinn.com) a 10-room inn (authentic Vermont breakfast included) just a few miles away from the mountain and a favorite of the friendly locals. Our room had no TV, so we played cards and shot pool in the tavern adjacent to the dining room as we waited for our favorite table by the stone fireplace.

Owners Margaret and Bruce Hyde exude the essence of Green Mountain hospitality. Margaret told us about a hiking trail behind the Inn, and even offered to lend us snowshoes. The view of Sugarbush on our one-hour hike was beautiful as we wandered over moose, deer, rabbit and fox tracks. Read more…
