Winter Activities in the Mad River Valley

Making snow at Sugarbush

Snowboarding at Sugarbush

Sugarbush Resort

The Inn is just minutes from some of best outdoor winter recreation around. Sugarbush Ski Resort is located just up the road. Mt. Ellen is 1 mile, Lincoln peak is 3 miles — as you probably know you can jump right on the Slide Brook Express (look out for the ride!) to get between the two. With Sugarbush's massive amount of snowmaking and variety of trails you're sure to find terrain that's ideal for you.

Skiing at Mad River Glen

Mad River Glen

Mad River Glen Ski Area (we're proud to be shareholders!), America's only cooperatively owned major ski area is located just 3 miles up Route 17. Their Ski It If You Can bumper stickers are displayed with pride throughout the Valley and around the world. One bumper sticker even made it into space, aboard the shuttle with astronaut and MRG skier Cady Colem.

Mad River Glen in Space

The unspoiled terrain and abundance of intermediate and expert terrain is unmatched. Try it and you'll find out why there are so many loyal Mad River Glen skiers. And while you're there, try out some of the best food to be found at any ski area. Pete and his friends do an incredible job!

Winter Hiking in the Mad River Valley

Cross Country Skiing

Cross Country ski touring centers are just minutes away. Try Ole's Cross Country Ski Center at the airport or Blueberry Lake.

Snowshoeing

If you haven't ever tried it, enjoy a snowshoe trek (you may even catch us on one our full moon snowshoe parties). Stop by Mad River Glen to enjoy the quiet mountain and beautiful scenery as you snowshoe. Participate in one of MRG's Naturalist Programs and learn about the natural environment of Stark Mountain on your hike.

Winter Nights in the Mad River Valley

Winter Nights

After a day of skiing or other outdoor activities, you can find a hot tub somewhere...or continue to enjoy the outdoors. Gather friends around a warm bonfire, look at the stars on a crisp cold night, or snowshoe under the full moon. Outdoors is fun even after the sun goes down.

Mad River Rocket - a Mad River Valley Original

Sledding

The Mad River Rocket sled is a Mad River Valley orginal, designed in Warren by local architect David Sellers and friends. The Rocket is opperated from a kneeling position. Because of its unique design, this sled carves turns.

Dining & Entertainment

A wide variety of restaurants, specialty shops, and nightclubs with live entertainment make our Mad River Valley winter indoors as great as it is outdoors.
