Summer Activities in Vermont's Mad River Valley

Summer evening mist over the Mad River Valley

Summer in the Valley offers a host of outdoor activities including hiking (the Long Trail and Catamount Trail are just minutes away), bicycling, golfing, soaring, canoeing & kayaking nearby on the Mad River, fishing, and the ever-popular Farmer's Market - Saturday mornings on the Mad River Green. Watching the sun set over Sugarbush isn't bad either!

Cycling

The Mad River Valley is a mecca in the summer for road cyclists. Light traffic, well-paved roads, and the lush green unspoiled beauty of the Mad River Valley set the stage for some of the finest cycling anywhere. Routes vary from relatively flat rolling hills to double gaps. Bike groups, families and friends are always welcome at the Hyde Away Inn.

The Hyde Away is proud to host the Mad River Valley Century Ride, dubbed "Coolest Century" by Bicycle magazine. And don't forget the Green Mountain Stage Race held Labor Day weekend featuring some of the top cyclists in the country.

Kayaking & Canoeing

Kayaking the Mad River

The Mad River Valley is a central location for kayaking and canoeing. Various locations are nearby or within a short driving distance: the Mad River, Winooski River, Green River and Lake Champlain. They offer everything from pristine uninhabited islands, miles from civilization, to Class IV whitewater to challenge any adrenalin junkie.

Warren 4th of July

The Warren 4th of July is one of Vermont's largest individual 4th of July celebrations. A parade with floats, musical entertainment on the balcony of the Warren store, food, and fun for kids at Brooks Field make the Warren 4th a great time for all.
